Tibumana Waterfall

A single curtain of water falling into a wide, swimmable pool

Tibumana is a graceful single-drop waterfall in Apuan village, Bangli, east of Ubud. Water slides off a mossy ledge in a neat curtain into a broad pool fringed with ferns, and the whole scene is small enough to take in at a glance. It is one of the more photogenic falls in the Ubud area and still far calmer than Tegenungan, especially early in the day.

The approach passes through farmland, with rice fields and coconut palms along the road and irrigation channels running beside the path. Near the falls the trail splits: one branch leads to Tibumana itself, the other to a smaller cascade beside an outdoor shrine, where local families sometimes come to pray and bathe. Treat that corner as a sacred space rather than a photo stop.

The walk from the car park follows a paved path and steps down through the trees, crossing small bridges over the stream. At the bottom, the pool is wide and cool, with a small alcove tucked in beside the falls. Swimming is popular, though the water is cold and, during the wet season, faster and murkier than it looks.

Highlights

  • Classic curtain-shaped falls
  • Wide plunge pool for swimming
  • Separate cascade beside a shrine
  • Rice-field scenery on the drive in

Good to know

  • Bring water shoes; the pool floor is rocky and slippery.
  • Be respectful around the shrine cascade and do not climb on offerings.
  • Combine with Tukad Cepung and Kanto Lampo, which are close by.
