Kanto Lampo is a low, terraced waterfall in Beng village, just outside Gianyar town. Rather than a single drop, the water fans out across a stepped rock face about 15 meters high, breaking into dozens of small streams before reaching a shallow pool. It is easy to reach, close to houses and roads, and has become one of the most photographed waterfalls near Ubud.
The falls sit in a narrow ravine where the rock has been worn into ledges and steps, creating the lacy, layered pattern that gives Kanto Lampo its character. Surrounding vegetation keeps the gorge shaded and cool. The site is managed by the local community, and small shrines near the entrance mark it, like most water sources on Bali, as a place of spiritual as well as scenic value.
A short flight of steps leads down from the road to the riverbed. Visitors wade into the pool, sit on the rock ledges, or climb carefully onto the lower steps of the falls for photographs. It is a brief visit rather than a hike, and it fills quickly with photographers by mid-morning, so early arrivals have the gentlest light and the most space.
