Suwat Waterfall is a small, easygoing fall in Suwat village, Gianyar, about half an hour east of Ubud. Water drops roughly 15 meters off a rock lip into a deep pool framed by jungle and carved stone. Bamboo rafts are available to paddle across to the falls, which gives the place a relaxed, playful atmosphere quite unlike the more dramatic waterfalls in the north.
Suwat village is known for its strong community identity, including a lively water festival held each new year in the Gregorian calendar, when villagers celebrate with water and blessings. The waterfall reflects the same local pride. It is maintained by the community, with a bamboo tunnel at the entrance and tidy paths leading down through the trees.
The walk down is short and well kept, with steps in places, and the pool at the bottom is wide and deep enough for swimming. A small alcove sits behind the falling water, and carvings decorate the rocks near the base. Some visitors jump from the rocks, but it is wise to check with local staff first, as depth and conditions vary.
