Goa Rang Reng is a waterfall and river cave in Bakbakan village, Gianyar, a short drive southeast of Ubud. Water slides over a series of sloping rock steps, some smooth enough to work like natural slides, before reaching a cave beside the falls. The site is managed by the local community and has a quieter, more village-centered feel than the better-known falls nearby.
For local people, Goa Rang Reng is a sacred place. Two streams meet just before the cave, and villagers come here for melukat, a ritual purification with holy water, at times of distress or misfortune. Treat the cave and any offerings with respect, as you are a guest in a place still used for worship rather than simply a scenic attraction.
From the entrance, a path descends toward the river through jungle and fields. At the bottom, the cascades spread out across the rocks and pools, with the cave set into the wall beside them. Visitors wade, sit in the shallow water, or slide carefully down the gentler sections. The rock is slippery, so move slowly and keep an eye on water levels.
