Nusa Dua Beach (Geger)

Calm, reef-sheltered water below a clifftop sea temple

Geger Beach lies on the southern edge of Nusa Dua, Bali's planned resort enclave on the east coast of the Bukit Peninsula. A long stretch of white sand with calm, reef-sheltered water, it is one of the most family-friendly beaches on the island and a quieter alternative to the busier resort beaches nearby, with public access that does not require staying at a resort.

On the headland at the southern end of the beach stands Pura Geger, a small Hindu temple on a limestone cliff with views across the ocean. At low tide, local farmers tend seaweed in the shallows, a reminder of the village life that predates the resorts. The reef offshore keeps the water calm close to shore, while surf breaks further out in the wet season.

Days here are relaxed, with families swimming, couples walking the sand and kayaks gliding over calm water. A walk up to the temple offers views over the bay and across to the coast. Simple warungs and beach clubs serve food and drinks, and the morning light makes the water glow turquoise. In the afternoon, the shade of the trees behind the sand becomes the most sought-after spot on the beach.
