Berawa Beach lies on the eastern side of Canggu, a long, open stretch of dark sand that has grown up around beach clubs, villas and international schools. Compared with Batu Bolong it feels broader and less crowded at the waterline, and it serves as a handy middle ground between Canggu's surf culture and the polished resort feel of Seminyak further south.
Like much of this coast, Berawa was farmland and coconut groves within living memory, and the shoreline still has temples and fishing families among the new development. The surf here is a beach break, with shifting peaks over sand. On smaller days it can work for improving surfers, but when the swell builds it becomes powerful and closes out, and rips are common along the whole stretch.
A walk along Berawa reveals the full range of modern Canggu, from large beach clubs with pools and DJs to simple warungs serving coconuts. Early mornings are peaceful, with joggers and dog walkers on firm sand. In the evening, the beach clubs draw the crowds and the sunset lights up the wet sand, creating long reflections down the shore.

Good to know
